New wastewater treatment works to meet the future regulatory discharge standards in compliance with the EC Directive Municipal Wastewater Treatment, designed for a population equivalent of 4,750, with Formula ‘'A'' of 48 l/s. The preliminary processes consist of new "Huber" inlet screens fitted with grit and grease removal followed by the main treatment process consisting of two Sequential Batch Reactor basins with integrated Surge Anoxic Mix (ISAM) tanks for integrated anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic processes for sewage treatment and sludge management.
The scheme replaces the old WwTW at Castlederg and comprises a new works with SBR technology but with the addition of Integrated Surge Anoxic Mix (ISAM) digester tanks. This system gives a form of treatment that has a reduced footprint and no requirement for separate sludge handling. The production of waste solids can be reduced by up to 85% for the entire secondary process. The old works which remained operational during construction has now been demolished.
