WIS Sponsors 2008 Wateraid Ball

WIS along with other Contractors, consultants and Northern Ireland Water staff, have joined forces to organise a fundraising Hawaiian Halloween Ball for WaterAid.

Robert White, Chairman, NI WaterAid explains what the organisation hopes to achieve through this year's event:

"We are on target to raise £60,000 through the 2008 WaterAid Ball.  The support and commitment of businesses and contractors has been invaluable in reaching this target.  Funds generated will make a significant difference to the work of WaterAid UK in some of the world's poorest communities in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region.

"WaterAid projects contribute in real, measurable ways to the Millennium Development Goals, one of which is to halve the proportion of the 2.6 billion people without access to safe water or basic sanitation by 2015."

To put the spotlight on the importance of sanitation, the UN General Assembly declared 2008 the International Year of Sanitation.

  • Sanitation is vital for human health
  • Sanitation generates economic benefits
  • Sanitation contributes to dignity and social development
  • Sanitation helps the environment
  • Improving sanitation is achievable!

Entertainment on the night was be provided by host Gene Fitzpatrick, Funki Feathers Fun Limbo Girls, and a very successful casino sponsored by WIS and BSG Civil Engineering.

The event has also been supported by a number of bronze sponsors.

WaterAid is both WIS and NI Water's designated charity and every year the local committee, which comprises individuals from all sectors of the organisation and associated contractors, consultants and suppliers develop group and individual fundraising efforts.  These activities have raised over £1,000,000 for the charity and are set to generate £7,000,000 by 2015.
